Redondo Beach Overview 

Known for being one of the more affordable neighborhoods in the South Bay, Redondo Beach is an ideal place to call home for a young family! Residents of quaint Redondo Beach enjoy the proximity to Los Angeles’s iconic wide sandy beaches, without the hustle and bustle of the city. Where neighbors feel like family, and everyone you meet is just downright friendly! Families and visitors alike flock to the landmark King Harbor pier for the freshest Seafood in the South Bay, and don’t forget to pop the Fun Factory - a harbor-side arcade filled with games and prizes!  

In the Springtime, Los Angeles’s hottest up-and-coming music festival rolls into town for a weekend of dancing and enjoying the sunshine with your neighbors and friends. Beachlife Festival attracts big stars like Gwen Stafani, Sheryl Crow, and just about every band on your “Good Vibes'' playlist.

There’s never been a better time to relocate to Redondo Beach, and we’re here to shed some light on which neighborhood may be best to move to if you have little ones or plan to have little ones someday! The one piece of information you need to know is that elementary schools are divided up by neighborhood, so the neighborhood you live in will dictate which elementary school your child will attend.

Redondo Beach Unified School District is a school district with approximately 10,000 students headquartered in Redondo Beach, California. The school district consists of eight elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school, one continuation school, and one adult school. RBUSD serves the city of Redondo Beach.

Reviews rave about Birney! Some parents even went as far as to say the campus feels like a private school campus. Tucked away in a small cozy residential neighborhood, Birney checks a lot of boxes and offers a multitude of programs including Coding! They also encourage and instill positive behavior in their students by implementing PBIS - Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support.

There’s just something really special about this school, it’s palpable through the words and photos on their website. This is the only Elementary we saw that mentions a college and career readiness program. Now this may seem a little early, but I think we can all agree that it’s never too early to have conversations about their future! Tulita also heavily mentions equality and diversity on their campus, noting all students thrive at Tulita!

Alta Vista Elementary #3 in RB #50 public elementary school in CA

Alta Vista Wildcats

Attached to Alta Vista Park, this elementary school is surrounded by greenery and the quaint neighborhood of Knob Hill. No programs are listed on their website, but their scores rank them high on our list! Alta Vista's mission is to provide a safe, orderly, and enriching learning environment where all children can learn and grow academically, physically, socially, and emotionally. 


Jefferson Elementary #4 in RB #60 public elementary school in CA

Apart from the numerous academic programs offered - we’re thrilled to see a school prioritize physical education just as much as academic education. Jefferson students can participate in a morning run around the track - every morning! Milestones are celebrated in the form of special bracelets and an end-of-the-year party! When the little ones aren’t tearing it up on the track, they’re expanding their minds as Green Ambassadors or Engineers for the Robotics Club! It’s interesting to read the reviews, as most come from alumni praising the elementary school for very fond memories from their younger years.

Lincoln Elementary is situated in a quiet residential neighborhood and offers a multitude of programs for your little ones to thrive! Programs included MindUp - a research-based training program geared toward students self-regulating their behavior in the classroom for optimal learning. Lincoln also offers prime math and English programs. The reviews rave about the teachers and how happy their little ones are being a Lincoln Lion! 


Beryl Heights Elementary #6 in RB #80 public elementary school in CA

Out of all the Elementary schools on this list, Beryl Heights has by far the best website, which makes us believe they are with the times and on top of it! Their programs reflect our notion in the form of innovative offerings like Live Well Kids - a program put in place to tackle child obesity by educating the little ones about nutrition as well as physical health. BH also implements a Buddy Program, where a Fifth grader is paired up with a Kindergartener during the course of the year. This system promotes leadership and character building.


Madison Elementary #7 in RB  #94 public elementary school in CA

Madison Comets 

  • ~488 Students
  • 68% students scored at or above proficient level in math 
  • 72% students scored at or above proficient level in reading

A quick glance at Madison’s curriculum showcases a heavy emphasis on reading! If your little one is drawn to books and all things English, this may be the perfect spot for them. As far as other programs go, Madison highlights Math and Band as well. The Madison motto states “Madison ES is a place where students, staff, and community enjoy positive and safe surroundings; where diversity, creativity, and meaningful learning is celebrated” 


Washington Elementary #8 in RB #123 public elementary school in CA

Washington Explorers

Located most notably towards the backend of the Galleria Mall, Washington Elementary sits right next to Redondo’s Adams Middle School. The programs here are nowhere near scarce! One that particularly caught our eye was the Washington Film Festival! A program where students can create their own films ranging from stop animation to music videos! What a fun idea for little creatives.
