If you’re a fan of Dexter or Mad Men, you’ll want to be at the 11th Annual Saint Patrick’s Day 5k run in Redondo Beach this Sunday, March 16th. Maxwell Huckabee, an 11-year-old Redondo Beach resident will be hosting the children’s race; the Chase Stecyk Little Leprechaun Dash. Maxwell has played the young “Dexter Morgan” in the hit series Dexter, as well as Don Drapers son in Mad Men. Young Maxwell’s career in Hollywood began when he was three years old and has since grown exponentially.
The children’s race is named after Chase Stecyk, an eleven year old who lost his life to a paralyzing tumor. Chase’s favorite color was green and favorite holiday was Saint Patrick’s Day, which makes honoring him at the race ever-more fitting.
Over 2,500 runners are expected to participate in the 5k Run/Walk, which will start in the Riviera Village. A share of all the proceeds will be going to local after-school programs. Runners are encouraged to dress up in costume or Saint Patrick’s Day outfits. All participants will receive a Saint Patrick’s Day Run t-shirt among several other prizes that will be awarded for best individual time and best team time. The course has been planned to ensure that it isn’t too difficult for participants. According to race director Mike Ward, “Our course is flat, fast, scenic, but also challenging for runners. The participants often set personal records in our race.”
An after party will be hosted at Rick & Brews, Redondo Beach, on Sunday, March 16th following the race. In conjunction with hosting the after party, Rock & Brews will also be offering discounts to all race participants throughout the weekend. Registration for the race is still open and participants of all ages are encouraged to sign up. The Village Runner website hosts the online registration and course route among other resources that are available to participants. The adult 5k run/walk will begin at 8:00am while the children’s race times are separated by age division (all times are also available on the website).
